From The Past

Welcome to www.MagicAutographs.com, a fan-site about the autographs of famous Magicians.  On the next five pages, you can discover the autographs of 75 wonderful magicians, along with news on how to collect your own magic autographs.  My name is San Diego Magician Michael E. Johnson and I'm your host.  This site was updated on May 16, 2008.

I collect magician's autographs because magic is my favorite form of entertainment.  I like the wonder, the surprise, the comedy and the emotion that great magic creates.  I appreciate the Magicians who make it happen.  When I collect an autograph, I capture a tiny piece of the spirit of the magical arts, as embodied in an individual performer.  To be honest with you, it's not about the autograph.  The autograph is a trigger which reminds me of the happiness created by great magic.

This site is divided into five pages.  Page 1 (Introduction) covers recent and past News Updates and a complete list of all the Magicians on this site.  Page 2 has Signed Photos.  Page 3 is Signed Playing Cards.  Page 4 has More Autographs from the world of magic.  Page 5 is Magic Autographs From the Past.

If you have any updates or contributions, please e-mail me at
mjohns341@cox.net.  Thanks for viewing!  Here's some of my 2008 magic autograph acquisitions.  Be sure to check out this web site from time to time for updates.
Mark Wilson

Visit
http://markwilsonmagic.com.  Check on the links for memorabilia or books.  An autographed book “Mark Wilson’s Complete Course In Magic” sells for $19.95.  An autographed poster of Mark levitating Nani in front of the Magic Castle in Hollywood sells for $35.

Autographed photos are $10, including one of Mark and Nani (black & white), one of Mark, Nani and Greg (color), plus three different black & white photos from the Magical Land of Alakazam, one with a CBS levitation, one of Mark, and third of Mark, Nani and Rebo.  If you ask, they will even personalize the autographed item.

I've met Mark and Nani at a lecture in San Diego, and several times at the Magic Castle in Hollywood.  They're the nicest couple in magic.  Mark has always been considerate about signing autographs from fans.  He also does an excellent lecture.  If you want to see him in-person, you should join the Magic Castle, because he goes there several times a month as part of his duties as a member of the Board of Directors.

Michael Ammar

Visit
http://ammarmagic.com.  Check on the link for autographed posters and photos.   Four different autographed posters sell for $9.00 each.  This includes one issued in 1994 for his “Cups and Balls” book, size 11” x 17”; one from 1998 for his DVD release “Easy To Master Thread Miracles” size 15 ½” x 9 ¾”; one from 1990 for his book “The Magic of Magical Ammar” size 11” x 17”; and the fourth from 1996 for his DVD release “Easy To Master Card Miracles” size 15 ½” x 9 ¾”.

You can even request personalization of the photos.  A great color photo size 8 ½” x 11” with autograph sells for $7.85.

I've met Michael Ammar during a lecture he did for Ring 76 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians in San Diego.  He's super nice about signing autographs.  If he ever lectures in your area, be sure to see him.  You'll learn alot!

Criss Angel

Visit http://crissangel.com.  Check on the link for merchandise.  You will find items offered for sale, but when you try to buy, almost everything is out of stock.  Items still available include a personally hand-signed limited edition framed canvas titled “The Whisperer”, selling for $1,000 for #27-#50, or $700 for #76-#100, or $500 for an unnumbered edition of 75.

For $180, you can buy a signed DVD gift set, which include 5 DVDs (Season 1 & 2, Halloween Special), autographed on the customized case.  However, the website notes that these items show some damage to the case, mainly on the corners of the signed gift boxes.  Only 35 undamaged gift box sets were available for $200 each, but those sold out.  For $75, you can buy a signed 2007 wall calendar size 9” x 12”.

Here’s what you might have bought, stuff that is still listed on the website but no longer available for purchase: $100 for an autographed copy of “Dub” magazine, July 2007 issue (only ten copies were available); $75 for a signed “Mindfreak” DVD shot in New York in 2002; $75 for a “Supernatural” DVD shot in 2003; $75 for “Made in Japan” DVD shot in 2003; $75 for a signed “Mindfreak” TV poster size 24” x 36”; $50 each for signed 11” x 17” posters titled “Angel In Mesh”, “Playing Card Back”, “Fire Hands”, “Houdini Tableau”, “Scarecrow”, “Mindfreak TV”, “Houdini Homage”, “Face Your Fear” and “Angel Live”.

I've talked to Criss on the phone before, and he was very kind.  He helped out on a project I did for the Magician Bob Elliott in 2007.  Criss sent a wonderful testimonial, and he sent Bob a nice autographed poster from his TV series "Mindfreak".

Penn and Teller

Visit http://www.pennandteller.com.  Check on the link for “Store”, then check out other links to view these autographed items:  For $24.95, you can buy “Off the Deep End” DVD with an autographed “Deep End” promo card.  For $12.85 you can buy a book by autographed by Penn, “How To Cheat Your Friends At Poker”.

For $12.00, you can buy either of two autographed souvenir programs, one from their fifth anniversary at the Rio (32-pages), and an earlier version (28-pages).  One item available last year, a book
“House of Mystery: The Magic Science of David P. Abbott”, Volumes 1 & 2, edited by Teller and Todd Karr, was selling for $100 with Teller’s autograph, but it’s no longer available.

I've met Penn and Teller after seeing them perform at the Rio in Las Vegas.  They're really nice about signing autographs and posing for pictures.  That's one of my favorite shows in Las Vegas!

A note on the website states that autographed material comes with a certificate of authenticity with an embossed official seal.

His autographed book “Mysterious Stranger” was selling for $40, and an autographed press kit from 2006 was listed at $100, with an “inventory low” note attached.  An autographed DVD of “Fearless” was also selling for $40.

Dean is probably my favorite escape artist.  I met him once in Hollywood when David Copperfield got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  Dean was very gracious about signing autographs.  He's a death-defying class-act!

Eugene Burger

Visit http://www.magicbeard.com.  Check on the link for “Signed Photographs”.  The website http://www.yourmagic.com sells his signed photos for $6.00 in two variety, portrait or landscape format.

I met Eugene when he did a lecture in Escondido, California.  What a great lecture that was!  We had breakfast the next morning, and I thoroughly enjoyed his company.  He's also quite nice about signing autographs for fans!

Lee Grabel

Visit
http://leegrabelmagic.com.  Look on the left side of the page, and check on the link “Antique Posters".  There's five options, each one autographed by Lee Grabel.  This includes the "Floating Piano" poster, size 40" x 60", for $200; the "Head Shot Caricature" poster size 40" x 60" for $150; the "Cannon Half-Sheet Streamer" size 14" x 41" for $125; the "Wonder Show" purple poster from 1946 size 11" x 17" for $50; and the "Alladin's Lamp" poster size 11" x 17" for $75.

I had the pleasure of meeting Lee and his wife Helene at a magic convention in San Diego, and they were two of the nicest people.  They were very considerate about signing autographs.

My favorite show in Las Vegas is the Mac King show.  I met him a few years ago, and he was incredibly nice to my family.  He made it a point to meet fans after his show, sign autographs and pose for photos.  If you ever go to Las Vegas, his show is the "must-see" magic show of all-time.  I can't say enough about him.  He's great!

Lance Burton

Previous Magic Autograph News

Updated October 24, 2006

There's plenty of opportunities to collect Magic autographs these days.  You can go to magic shows and meet Magicians directly.  They're usually nice about signing autographs.  You can also buy autographs on eBay.  Check this web site from time to time, because there's always some new updates every month.

Here's some other sources for magic autographs.  Let me know about your experiences!

More Cool Autograph News

Bryan Yoshimoto has a neat collectors web site feature some magic autographs at www.freewebs.com/bnymagic.

Max Maven is another great autograph signer.  He provides personalized autographed photos to fans, according to his web site www.maxmaven.com.  All he requests is $3 for postage and handling, or $5 if outside North America.  Write him at 7095 Hollywood Blvd. #382, Hollywood, CA 90028-8903

James Randi is one of my all-time favorite magic autographs.  He's been nice to his fans for years.  Randi recently e-mailed MagicAutographs.com and reported "I will send personally-dedicated autographs to anyone who provides a stamped, self-addressed envelope.  I will not send out signatures without personal dedications because I find these days later for sale on eBay."  Visit his website at www.randi.org for more information about some of the great books he sells with autographs, like The Faith Healers ($24), Conjuring ($30), The Truth About Uri Geller ($25), The Mask of Nostradamus ($22) and An Encyclopedia of Claims, Frauds, and Hoaxes of the Occult and Supernatural ($25).  For more information, write the James Randi Educational Foundation, 201 S.E. 12th St., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316-1815.

David Copperfield might travel the globe, but he still takes time to respond to fans.  He's been known to send an autographed photo to fans who write a nice letter and include an 8" x 10" self-addressed stamped envelope, according to www.davidcopperfield.com.  I've written him several times over the years, and he's always been nice to me.  It's the same story in-person.  He really shows caring and concern to his fans.  When writing, be patient and send requests to David Copperfield, c/o Autograph, 11777 San Vicente Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90049.  The best bet is to see him perform live.  Sometimes, after the show, there are autograph opportunities.

Meir Yedid sells lots of autographed posters through www.mymagic.com, like Paul Daniels $25, Rene Lavand $30, Tom Mullica $25, Princess Tenko $25 and Meir Yedid $7.50 & $10.  Dunninger signed checks are $15 and Herb Zarrow signed postcards are $15.  I just bought several items; shipping only took a few days, and everything looked great.

Darren Romeo sells a signed photo for $6 and a signed poster $13, according to www.darrenromeo.com.  Please make checks payable to "Darren Romeo", and send to Darren Romeo, c/o Siegfried & Roy Productions, 1639 N. Valley Dr., Las Vegas, NV 89108.

Uri Geller sells autographed books, CDs and art works through his web site at www.uri-geller.com.  He even offers to personalize the autograph and draw a special art work for you.  Here's a sample, including approximate prices in U.S. currency: The Psychic and the Rabbi $47.34, Unorthodox Encounters $47.34 and Mind Medicine $56.81.

Your Autograph should be published on this web site, if you're a Magician!  Send me a copy of a signed photo or even a signature, and I just might publish it on magicautographs.com.  Send items to Michael E. Johnson, 197 Woodland Pkwy., Ste. 104 PMB 492, San Marcos, CA 92069-3020.

Do you know of any other magic autograph opportunities?  Let me know at mjohns341@cox.net and I'll try to add it to this site.
