Nov. 11, 2009.  Welcome to www.MagicAutographs.com, a resource guide on the autographs of famous Magicians.  My name is Magician Michael E. Johnson and I'm your host.  Here you will find examples of 50+ magic autographs on books, magazines, playing cards and photos.  I'll share some of my personal favorites, and describe magician autograph collecting opportunities in 2009.

I collect magician's autographs because magic is my favorite form of entertainment.  I like the wonder, the surprise, the comedy and the emotion that great magic creates.  I appreciate the Magicians who make it happen.  When I collect a magician signature, I capture a tiny piece of the spirit of the magical arts, as embodied in an individual performer.  To be honest with you, it's not about the autograph.  The autograph is a trigger which reminds me of the happiness created by great magic.

This site is divided into five pages.  Page 1 covers autograph opportunities in 2009  and a few of my favorite Magician autographs, Page 2 is about signed books, Page 3 is on signed playing cards, Page 4 focuses on fake autographs, and Page 5 features signed magazines.

If you have any updates or contributions, please e-mail me at mjohns341@cox.net.  Thanks for viewing!  I'll keep working on this site, in between my gigs as one of San Diego's best Magicians.  Be sure to check out this web site from time to time for updates.  Or, if you want to be notified when there's updates to www.MagicAutographs.com, please send an e-mail with your full name, city and state, and type "Magic Autograph Updates" in the subject line.  Here's an index to all the magic autographs featured on this web site:

Autograph Notes On
Famous Magicians

David Copperfield

The King of Magic Autographs is David Copperfield, who has probably signed more signatures around the world than any magician living today.  He's so popular that his website doesn't sell anything, nor does it directly mention autograph at
http://dcopperfield.com.  However, in my personal experiences, I have found David to be a great autograph signer.  He often takes time after his shows to meet fans, sign autographs and pose for pictures.  He's also quite nice about responding to fan mail.  When writing to him, be sure to include a self-addressed stamped envelope to make it easier for him to reply.  His address is David Copperfield, 11777 San Vicente Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90049.

Mark Wilson

Visit
http://markwilsonmagic.com.  Check on the links for memorabilia or books.  An autographed book “Mark Wilson’s Complete Course In Magic” sells for $19.95.  An autographed poster of Mark levitating Nani in front of the Magic Castle in Hollywood sells for $39.95.  Autographed photos are $10, including one of Mark and Nani (black & white), one of Mark, Nani and Greg (color), plus three different black & white photos from the Magical Land of Alakazam, one with a CBS levitation, one of Mark, and third of Mark, Nani and Rebo.  If you ask, they will even personalize the autographed item.  For more info, contact Magic International, P.O. Box 801839, Santa Clarita, CA 91380-1839; or call 800-367-8749, or e-mail naniwilson@sbcglobal.net.  I've met Mark and Nani at a lecture in San Diego, and several times at the Magic Castle in Hollywood.  They're the nicest couple in magic.  Mark has always been considerate about signing autographs from fans.  He also does an excellent lecture.  If you want to see him in-person, you should join the Magic Castle, because he goes there several times a month as part of his duties as a member of the Board of Directors.

Michael Ammar

Visit
http://ammarmagic.com.  Check on the link for “store,” then click on “autographed posters and photos.”   Four different autographed posters sell for $9.00 each.  This includes one issued in 1994 for his “Cups and Balls” book, size 11” x 17”; one from 1998 for his DVD release “Easy To Master Thread Miracles” size 15 ½” x 9 ¾”; one from 1990 for his book “The Magic of Magical Ammar” size 11” x 17”; and the fourth from 1996 for his DVD release “Easy To Master Card Miracles” size 15 ½” x 9 ¾”.  You can even request personalization of the photos.  A great color photo size 8 ½” x 11” with autograph sells for $7.85.  For more info, contact Michael Ammar Magic, P.O. Box 1938, Windemere, FL 34786; or e-mail ammarmagic@oco.net.  I've met Michael Ammar during a lecture he did for Ring 76 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians in San Diego.  He's super nice about signing autographs.  If he ever lectures in your area, be sure to see him.  You'll learn alot!

Criss Angel

Visit
http://crissangel.com.  Check on the link for “store,” then click on “merchandise”.  Criss used to have several autographed items on his website, but as his popularity has grown, the options have shrunk.  Now, only one item is listed, the hand signed implosion escape commemorative for $150 from his July 30, 2008, escape, but this item is out-of-stock and needs to be backordered.  Items that used to be available were a personally hand-signed limited edition framed canvas titled “The Whisperer”, selling for $1,000 for #27-#50, or $700 for #76-#100, or $500 for an unnumbered edition of 75.  For $180, you could have bought a signed DVD gift set, which include 5 DVDs (Season 1 & 2, Halloween Special), autographed on the customized case.  For $75, you could buy a signed 2007 wall calendar size 9” x 12”.  At one time, you could have purchased an autographed copy of “Dub” magazine, July 2007 issue (only ten copies were available) for $100; $75 for a signed “Mindfreak” DVD shot in New York in 2002; $75 for a “Supernatural” DVD shot in 2003; $75 for “Made in Japan” DVD shot in 2003; $75 for a signed “Mindfreak” TV poster size 24” x 36”; $50 each for signed 11” x 17” posters titled “Angel In Mesh”, “Playing Card Back”, “Fire Hands”, “Houdini Tableau”, “Scarecrow”, “Mindfreak TV”, “Houdini Homage”, “Face Your Fear” and “Angel Live”.  If you ever visit Las Vegas, there are opportunities to meet Criss in-person.  I met him at a promotional event at the Luxor, and he was really nice to fans, signing autographs and posing for pictures.  A few years ago, Criss even helped me out on a project I did for the Magician Bob Elliott in 2007.  He sent a wonderful testimonial, which was published in booklet for Bob’s special event through IBM Ring 76 in San Diego.

Penn and Teller

Visit
http://pennandteller.com.  Check on the link for “Store”.  As of Oct. 19, 2009, there were no autographed items available.  However, there is a link under “Contact” to request an autograph.  The e-mail address for requests is autographrequests@pennandteller.com.  At different times in the past, their store has offered autographed items.  For $24.95, you could have bought the “Off the Deep End” DVD with an autographed “Deep End” promo card.  For $12.85 you could have bought a book by autographed by Penn, “How To Cheat Your Friends At Poker”.  For $12.00, there were two autographed souvenir programs, one from their fifth anniversary at the Rio (32-pages), and an earlier version (28-pages).  One item available last year, a book “House of Mystery: The Magic Science of David P. Abbott”, Volumes 1 & 2, edited by Teller and Todd Karr, was selling for $100 with Teller’s autograph, but it’s no longer available.  I've met Penn and Teller after seeing them perform at the Rio in Las Vegas.  They're really nice about signing autographs and posing for pictures.  That's one of my favorite shows in Las Vegas!

Norm Nielsen

Visit
http://nnmagic.com.  Check on the link for “Search Site” on the bottom left of the page, and type in “autograph”.  That will show you several items for sale with autographs.  You can also check on the links for “Nielsen Prints” or “Mirror Cards” for more specific options.  Here’s some items with autographs: $100 for a signed David Blaine poster from “Frozen In Time”, $100 each for signed prints size approximately 17” x 23” of Carl Ballantine, John Booth, Marshall Brodien, Dominique, Jeff Hobson, Wayne Dobson, Johnny Hart, Bill Malone, Tom Mullica, Norm Nielsen, Rico, Mr. Electric (Marvyn Roy), Tomsoni & Co. and Paul Potassy.  Many autographed posters are also available in size 30” x 40” for $250.  Autographed mirror cards size 2” x 3” were selling for $25 each for Marvyn & Carol Roy, Jack Kodell, Silvan, Hans Moretti, Norm Nielsen, Mac King, Fantasio, Peter Reveen, Shintaro Fujiyama, Max Maven, John Gaughan, The Keeners, Paul Daniels, Princess Tenko, Carl Ballantine, Pierre Brahma, The Falkensteins, Mark Wilson and Nani Darnell, Andre Kole, Charles and Regina Reynolds, The Pendragons, Ali Bongo, John Booth, Alan Shaxon, Ormond McGill, Chuck and Jan Jones, Lee Grabel, Goldfinger and Dove, Rene Levand, Dimmare, Dominique, Johnny Hart, The Napoleons, Wayne Dobson, Juan Tamariz, Amos Lefkovitch, Johnny Lonn and P.C. Box 34300, Las Vegas, NV 89133; or call 702-656-7674; or e-mail mail@nnmagic.com.

David Blaine

Visit
http://davidblaine.com.  Check on the link for “Shop”.  The newest item is a Performance used deck of David Blaine cards, autographed, for $9.99.  For $9.95, you can buy a Split Spades Lion series deck with an autographed card.  For $39.99, you can buy his newest autographed poster titled “Decade”.  For $199, you can buy the complete set of seven autographed posters.  Prices have dropped since last year, when a set of five autographed posters was selling for $349, or $100 each.  Now, you can buy individual autographed posters for $39.99.  A note on the website states that autographed material comes with a certificate of authenticity with an embossed official seal.  His autographed book “Mysterious Stranger” was selling for $39.99, and an autographed press kit from 2006 was listed at $99.99, with an “inventory low” note attached.  An autographed DVD of “Fearless” was also selling for $39.99.  I’ve purchased stuff from the David Blaine store before, and their service was great.  For more info e-mail dborders@davidblaine.com.

Dean Gunnarson

Visit

Eugene Burger

Visit
http://magicbeard.com.  Check on the link for “Signed Photographs”.  The website http://yourmagic.com sells his signed photos for $6.00 in two varieties, portrait or landscape format.  I met Eugene when he did a lecture in Escondido, California.  What a great lecture that was!  We had breakfast the next morning, and I thoroughly enjoyed his company.  He's also quite nice about signing autographs for fans!

Lee Grabel

Visit
http://leegrabelmagic.com.  On top of the page, click on the link “Memorabilia”, then another click on “View and purchase Lee Grabel memorabilia”.  On the left side of the page, under “Items for sale,” click “Antique Posters".  There's five options, each one autographed by Lee Grabel.  This includes the "Floating Piano" poster, size 40" x 60", for $200; the "Head Shot Caricature" poster size 40" x 60" for $150; the "Cannon Half-Sheet Streamer" size 14" x 41" for $125; the "Wonder Show" purple poster from 1946 size 11" x 17" for $50; and the "Alladin's Lamp" poster size 11" x 17" for $75.  For more options, go back to the “Items for sale” category and click on the link for "DVDs and Books" under the "Antique Posters" link.  His 75-page "Souvenir Program" sells for $35, which includes an autograph 8" x 10" black and white photo montage of the Floating Piano.  Also, his 1986 book "Magic and Illusions of Lee Grabel" by Ormand McGill sells for $200, which is numbered and signed by Lee.  I had the pleasure of meeting Lee and his wife Helene at a magic convention in San Diego, and they were two of the nicest people.  They were very considerate about signing autographs.

Jeff McBride

Visit
http://mcbridemagic.com.  In the past, his website stated, “Jeff will also be happy to send you either a free, signed 4x6 color postcard or a playing card from his show (your choice).  Please send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to his office: McBride Magic, Inc., 3132 Shadow Ridge Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89120.”  You can also visit http://yourmagic.com.  Check on the link under “Authors” for “Jeff McBride”, and scroll down the page for his product “Jeff McBride Photograph”.  He offers two autographed color photos for $6.00 each, one with “Gold Mask” and another with “Masks & Swords”.  These photos can be personalized upon request.  Also available is a signed poster for $14.99; the size is 16” x 20” and the edition is limited to 1,000 prints.  I've written to Jeff several times for autographs over the years, and he always responds.  This is one of the true gentlemen of magic.  He takes time to communicate with fans, and always leaves you feeling special.

Mac King

Lance Burton

Visit
http://lanceburton.org.  Check on the link “Inside Lance” on the left side of the page, then on the link “Ask Lance” near the upper center of the page.  In this candid interview, Lance says that he will provide autographed photos to any one who writes him at Lance Burton, The Lance Burton Theatre, Monte Carlo Resort & Casino, 3770 S. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89109.  I've written to Lance several times over the years, and he's always been wonderful about signing autographs.  My family caught his show at the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas this summer, and it was incredible.  This was the best show I've seen in years.  His magic is so fun to watch.  Even better, he's a real gentleman when it comes to his magic fans.
